You May Know Your I.Q. - But How's Your C.Q. and P.Q.?
A good friend asked the other day why I was such a "RESPA Nerd". Yep, she said it (did I mention she is a very good friend?). She couldn't imagine digesting reams of legislative dreck and navigating the complex politics of the regulatory world. "You just love this stuff", she said. Actually, I don't. But I've long suffered from a chronic problem... While my IQ wouldn’t get me very far in life; my CQ and PQ are off the charts.
CQ, Curiosity Quotient and PQ, Passion Quotient can be just as important (and sometimes more important) than IQ. If you find yourself struggling to enjoy work or life, or find yourself resisting change ... chances are your IQ is just fine. But your CQ or PQ might be out of whack.
Curiosity is the insatiable appetite for more knowledge, more possibilities and a feeling of excitement at taking something that is merely possible and making it a reality.
Your Passion Quotient is the engine that helps fuel your curiosity; it moves you from where you are today to where you want to be. It takes the subject of your curiosity beyond a mere idea and shapes it into reality. Seeing a change through from concept to end result can get daunting at times. Mere curiosity won't carry you through when times get tough. That's when you need the passion to keep you moving forward.
This business evolution process that we're all involved in together is going to require more than just brain power. So if you find yourself overwhelmed, tired or just plain dreading making the change, see if you can give your CQ and PQ a tune-up.
And remember, Albert Einstein had one of the highest IQs known to humankind, yet here's what he had to say about passion and curiosity..."I have no special talents. I am only passionately curious."
